Grace in the Desert

Native to the American West, the sego lily once sustained pioneer families during times of scarcity—making it not just a flower, but a sacred emblem of survival and providence. This artwork reflects that spirit with a gentle palette and intentional stillness, offering a peaceful focal point for spaces that need grounding and light.

Note from the artist:
“The Sego Lily is a flower with quiet roots and a meaningful history. It’s the state flower of Utah and earned its name from the Shoshone word sikoo’, meaning “edible bulb.” During times of famine in the mid-1800s, pioneer families survived by digging up and eating the bulbs of this wildflower. Because of that, it became a symbol of grace under hardship—and of God’s quiet provision.
When I painted this piece, I was drawn to its simplicity and resilience. It’s not a loud flower, but it carries a deep, enduring beauty. This painting is my way of honoring the sego lily’s legacy—something soft, meaningful, and quietly strong.”
